Oral Conscious Sedation in Round Rock, TX!
Some dental procedures require the use of sedation. It’s recommended for patients who must undergo a significant amount of dental work, or are addressing a severe dental condition. It’s also useful for those who have a difficult time getting numb or who gag easily. For those who need to have a lot of dentistry done, as it allows you to condense what might take many appointments into just a few.
Sedation can help patients who have a severe fear of needles and dentists or have previously had traumatic experiences with a dentist. The medicine raises the pain threshold, so sedation is very useful for those who hate the noises and smells associated with a dental office.

Procedure
An oral medication used for sedation purposes produces a light to moderate effect depending on the strength of the prescription. Your dentist will review your health conditions and the procedure to determine an appropriate dosage for you.
Oral sedation is administered by pill, typically a member of the same drug family as Valium. Other common drugs used are Ativan, Lorazepam, and Phenergan. You’ll typically take medicine about an hour before the procedure.
The pill will make you drowsy, but you’ll be able to communicate and can respond to the dentist’s commands. You may feel groggy, slur your words and might not remember much of the procedure. Some people fall asleep but are awakened easily.
Most patients feel comfortable and are pain-free during their treatment. Side effects of oral sedation may include nausea and vomiting, but these are rare and non-problematic.
For your safety, you’ll need an adult drive you home.
Can Any Dentist Perform Sedation?
Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?
There is always a risk in getting anesthesia, but it is usually safe in healthy individuals when administered by experienced dentists. Dental procedures under sedation should only be performed by dentists with appropriate training. Your dentist will consider your health background when choosing a form of conscious sedation, so be sure update your medical history before agreeing to any procedures to avoid complications.
